Superb quality Victorian ballon back chair dating to 1876.
Very skilfully made chair with beautiful carved decoration. The chair frame is made from solid walnut and features two pieces scroll decorations to the top and bottom of the balloon back rest. Cabriole legs with carved scroll feet to the front and rounded legs to the back.
It has a wonderful natural patina to the wood. No wobbles, loose joints or other structural issues. It has previously been recovered in a hard wearing light golden fabric which gives a lovely contrast to the tones of the walnut and brass studs. The upholstery is in excellent condition with no major wear or marks. A little sun faded but it’s even and looks natural.
The chair came with a note attached to the underside from the previous owner stating that the chairs were made by Dempter in Camden Street, North Shields (North Tyneside). I have its matching chair listed for sale separately.
It measures:
34.5” tall, 17” wide, 20” deep (including curve of the back rest) and 18” height to seat.
