Original mahogany and steel slatted bench designed by the iconic award winning British architect and designer Robin Day and made by Hille.
This iconic piece dates to the late 1950s and was manufactured by Hille. It was sold at Heals of London amongst other high end furniture shops.
Information found online (twentytwentyone) states;
“The Slatted Bench was designed for Hille and first launched at the Milan Triennale in 1954. This simple construction of solid wood slats supported by a steel rod frame married the honesty of a natural material with man-made forged metal.
In addition to serving as a bench or low table, this multi-functional design was conceived to work as a modular, flexible base for Day's storage cabinets from the Interplan range. As ever, Day was concerned with issues of practicality and functionality in the modern home, observing: "what one needs in today's small rooms is to see over and under one's furniture."
That’s certainly still true today.
The bench is in very good original condition. It came from the same home from that of the two Ernest Race “Heron” Chairs I have listed and I also have a pair of Hille Interplan drawers and a cocktail cabinet I will be listing within the next few days from the same source. It does have a few light marks and a little fading, however these are minimal and it’s very hard to find one of these in its original condition.
It measures:
72” long, 13” tall and 18” wide.
