Large Naga Tribe Teak Grain Rice Pounder Pestle Made From Tree Trunk Planter Pot.

This large piece of folk art was originally a traditional tribal grain/rice pounder (and was used as such) carved out of a solid teak tree trunk. Essentially a huge mortar part of a pestle and mortar.

It was imported into the UK in the 1980s and used as a shop display piece until recently. It was originally used in India/Burma by the Naga Tribe for grinding grain, and has the signs of use and subsequently acquired patina.

It makes a beautiful and unusual plant pot/planter and would look superb with a nice fern or other bushy green plant. It actually looks quite good in its own right as an objet d’art.

It is a large piece measuring approx 26.5” tall and 17” in diameter. It is also very heavy.

As it’s made from teak it should be fairly weather resistant so could be used outside although I think it’s nice as an indoor decorative piece. It does have natural splits in the wood, etc which I feel all add to its visual appeal. (See photos)

It can be collected from our shop in Palmerville, North Tyneside or I can arrange local delivery for £25

National delivery is available via trusted courier for approx £45 (due to weight)
