This beautifully made and designed cabinet dates from around 1900 to 1910 and is a very stylish piece for displaying treasured items. It’s constructed of solid mahogany and features a wonderful glazed central cabinet with a carved tulip design and three rings. Hits flanked on either side with two smaller glazed cabinets. All three are lined in a woven silk fabric. Each cabinet locks and this comes with two original keys. It stands upon gorgeous tapered columns and feet, typical of the arts and crafts style of makers such as Shapland and Petter. The only identifying marks that I could see were on the three lock plates “Salmon Bros, London”. I have found two further examples of these online, one of which sold at Christies London on 30/1/13 for £4000 (hammer price - sale number 9799). The condition is excellent overall with only light marks commensurate with age. This originally had a separate top piece which is long missing. The top has evidence of dowels where this once sat. There has been one small chip off a corner which has been sanded and re-finished and is genuinely barely noticeable (photos taken before) There are a couple of small light marks on the silk interior. There are no other nasty marks or scratches, repairs or obvious damage that I could see. It measures (at widest points) 64” tall, 54” wide and 14.25” deep.
