Vintage Oak Monks Bench Chest Table Hall Seat With Lion Carvings.
Vintage 1940s/50s monks bench made by L Marcus Ltd of London.
The bench is constructed of oak and oak plywood and makes a great decorative storage option for the hall or bedroom. It’s perfect for the hallway as makes great storage for shoes plus a place to sit whilst putting them on.
It features a decent sized storage trunk - perfect for shoes, blankets, towels or toys. The front is decorated with a linen fold type moulding. The top folds down too to make a table, and sits in place with two carved lion decorations which also act as arm rests whilst as a bench/seat.
It’s in good solid condition throughout with no major structural issues. The top has been sanded back and re-stained and varnished due to some marks. There was a chip from the plywood which has been sanded and stained but can still be seen. The only other issue is a piece of the decorative skirt has also been damaged. It has been sanded and stained to match and again isn’t too noticeable really (see photos).
It measures:
42” wide, 17.5” deep, 20” to seat, 30” to table top and when folded into a bench, 40” overall height.
